It’s September, which means crisp mornings and dark, cozy evenings will be here before we know it. Well, here in South Carolina, it will still be a while before we get to enjoy those cooler mornings! Either way, it is a great time to start incorporating some touches of fall into your home decor. The entryway is one of my favorite places to decorate for a new season. It is often the first glimpse guests have of your home and a few thoughtful changes can make an entryway feel warmer and more welcoming without completely redecorating the room. Here are the best fall entryway table decorating ideas that are sure to give your home a warm and elegant feel!
1. Start With a Beautiful Lamp
One of the easiest ways to make an entryway feel warm and inviting is with a beautiful table lamp.
As the days get shorter, the soft glow of a lamp becomes especially welcoming. To create the perfect ambiance, swap out your soft white lightbulbs for amber ones in the 1800-2200K range for a warm glow.
When choosing a lamp for your entryway, opt for classic silhouettes that will work with any shade because a new shade is an easy way to switch up your decor with the seasons.
2. Add a Decorative Mirror
If you have an entryway table, adding a mirror above it will serve as a perfect backdrop for your foyer decor in any season.
A mirror reflects light and can make a smaller entryway feel more spacious. For a traditional home, I love antique or vintage-looking mirrors with gilded frames or simple wood frames.
Add seasonal touches to your mirror like dried flowers or colorful autumn leaves.
3. Bring the Outdoors Inside With Fall Branches
One of the simplest and most beautiful fall entryway table decor ideas is a large arrangement of branches.
Instead of buying a traditional fall floral arrangement, look around your own garden or landscape for inspiration. Depending on where you live, you may be able to use oak branches, maple branches, magnolia, berries, or other interesting foliage. I personally love cutting branches from my dogwood or Japanese maple trees.
Dried branches are another wonderful option and can last for years.
Place your branches in a large ceramic vase, glass vessel, vintage urn, or blue-and-white ginger jar. The height draws the eye upward and creates an immediate focal point for the entryway.
4. Use Pumpkins Sparingly
I love pumpkins, but I think they look best when they are used thoughtfully.
White, green, heirloom, and muted orange miniature pumpkins and gourds can all work beautifully in a traditional home. If your decor is more neutral, a white or cream-colored pumpkin can provide just enough seasonal interest. If you’re using real pumpkins, inspect them regularly to ensure they don’t start rotting in your home!
You can also use ceramic or velvet pumpkins if you want something that can be stored and reused every year.
Think of pumpkins as an accent rather than the centerpiece of your entire decorating scheme.
5. Layer in Books
Books are one of my favorite decorating accessories because they make a room feel collected and lived in and emphasize that charming fall dark academia vibe.
Stack two or three books horizontally on your entryway table and use them to create a little height. You can place a small pumpkin, bowl, candlestick, or decorative object on top.
Books are particularly useful when you’re decorating on a budget because they can be moved throughout your home as the seasons change and you can buy secondhand or vintage books fairly cheaply.
For fall, look for vintage books with warm-colored covers that appear to be slightly worn.
6. Decorate With Brass and Vintage Accessories
Fall is a natural time to introduce warmer metals into your home decor.
Brass candlesticks, antique boxes, small picture frames, decorative bowls, and other vintage objects can all add warmth and charm to an entryway table.
I especially love the way aged brass looks alongside fall foliage. The combination feels traditional without being overly formal.
Don’t worry about everything matching. In fact, an assortment of pieces with different finishes often looks more interesting and collected.
7. Add a Fall Floral Arrangement
Flowers don’t have to be bright orange and red to make an arrangement feel like autumn.
For a more elegant look, try dried hydrangeas, dahlias, grasses, berries, or branches in muted shades of cream, rust, burgundy, and brown.
Dried hydrangeas are particularly beautiful in the fall and are an easy way to bring the garden indoors.
If you grow hydrangeas, particularly limelight or oakleaf hydrangeas, in your own garden, consider drying some of the blooms at the end of the season. They make beautiful arrangements and cost virtually nothing.
8. Try a Neutral Fall Color Palette
If traditional orange fall decorations aren’t your style, you don’t have to use them.
A neutral fall entryway can be just as seasonal and often feels more sophisticated.
Try combining:
- Cream
- Warm white
- Brown
- Tan
- Olive green
- Muted rust
- Natural wood
- Brass
This palette works particularly well with traditional and transitional interiors.
Try combining a few cream pumpkins, dried hydrangeas, a woven basket, and a brass candlestick for an elegant and cohesive fall entryway display.

9. Mix Heights and Textures
One of the easiest ways to make these fall entryway table decorating ideas work in your own home is to think about the height of the pieces you’ve collected.
You don’t want everything sitting at exactly the same level.
Instead, try this simple formula:
Tall: branches or a lamp
Medium: vase, candlesticks, or artwork
Low: books, a bowl, or a small pumpkin
Then introduce different textures through ceramic, brass, wood, glass, linen, or other natural materials.
The contrast keeps the display interesting without requiring a large number of objects.
10. Keep it Simple
If your entryway is small, resist the temptation to fill every inch of your space with fall decor.
A narrow console can actually look more elegant with just a few carefully selected pieces.
Try a large mirror, one lamp, a small floral arrangement, and a single seasonal accent.
You can also use the space beneath the table. A woven basket can provide storage while adding another natural texture to the room.
The goal is to create a welcoming entry rather than make the space difficult to walk through.
11. Add Traditional Accents
You can’t go wrong with traditional accents! I might be slightly biased because this is the type of fall decorating I love most as the seasonal elements complement the existing character of the home rather than competing with it.
For example, a dark wood console beneath an antique mirror, an oriental rug underfoot, a brass lamp on one side, and a large arrangement of autumn branches on the other feels like a timeless fall combination.
Add a few books, candlesticks, a pair of Staffordshire dogs, or another vintage accessory.
12. Make Your Fall Decor Last Through Thanksgiving
One of the easiest ways to make seasonal decorating more affordable is to choose pieces that don’t need to be replaced every few weeks.
Evergreen branches, dried flowers, magnolia leaves, brass accessories, wood, books, and neutral ceramics can all remain in your entryway throughout autumn.
In September, you might keep things very simple with greenery and dried branches. In October, add a few pumpkins or richer autumn colors. By November, you can introduce deeper burgundy and warm brown tones.
13. Don’t Be Afraid of Empty Space
Perhaps my most important fall decorating tip is to leave some empty space.
It can be tempting to keep adding another pumpkin, another candle, or another decorative object until the table feels “finished.” But often, the most elegant arrangements are the ones that have room to breathe.
Your entryway should still feel like your home.
Seasonal decorating should enhance the room’s existing character, not completely transform it.
A Simple Formula for Fall Entryway Table Decor
If you’re not sure where to start, try this simple formula:
1. Choose an anchor.
Start with a lamp, mirror, or piece of artwork.
2. Add something natural.
Use branches, dried flowers, foliage, or greenery.
3. Layer in warmth.
Add brass, wood, books, or another textured material.
4. Introduce one or two seasonal accents.
A pumpkin, fall-colored vase, or dried arrangement is plenty.
5. Add something personal.
A family photograph, antique, collected object, or favorite book keeps the display from feeling like a showroom.
The best fall entryway table decorating ideas don’t necessarily involve the most decorations. Instead, they create a feeling.
A beautiful arrangement of autumn branches, the warm glow of a lamp, a stack of books, and a few carefully chosen seasonal accents can make an entryway feel completely different as the seasons change.
For me, the goal is always to decorate in a way that feels timeless. I want the entryway to feel like the same home I love throughout the year, just a little warmer and cozier for autumn.
