If you’re new here, welcome! I’m Sasha. My husband, Matt, and I have slowly been renovating and decorating our Victorian home, while trying to maintain its historic charm. For this One Room Challenge, we tackled our dated, old sunroom renovation.
The reveal day is finally here and I couldn’t be more excited to share the results of our sunroom renovation with you!

The Before – Dull and Dated
When we moved in, our sunroom, like the rest of our home was dated, but had good bones. The potential was there, it just needed a little help to fully realize it! Our sunroom was comprised of two small, glass rooms, which had little functionality due to their narrow width. Here’s what it looked like right before we lived here and also long before we lived here.
The Renovations
We knocked the dividing wall down about two years ago and replaced the floor to combine the two small rooms. Ripping up the tile was an awful process because it created so much dust. Make sure you properly seal off the space and have good ventilation when you do this. After we removed the wallpaper and the built in desk, we discovered the drywall was damaged. We needed to repair it before we painted. We used PRO-999 RX-35 to repair the torn drywall.
After we finished renovating our sunroom in the winter of 2021, it basically sat unfurnished for two years because our attention was focused on our bathroom renovation. The reason I wanted to do the One Room Challenge this season was to motivate myself to finish decorating it!
The Design Concept for Our Sunroom Renovation
From the start, I envisioned a colorful sunroom with lots of plants. I think it is safe to say that I achieved this goal. Of course, the centerpiece of my design is my beloved Lee Jofa Hollyhock sofa! Decorating around such a colorful pattern might seem daunting, but, one you learn the formula for mixing patterns, it’s rather simple.
The After – From Old and Dated to Lively and Colorful – Our Sunroom Renovation
This certainly feels like a long time coming, considering we tore this wall down almost two years ago. However, I could not be more please with the result!
The Paint
The walls are painted Capitol White (Benjamin Moore), the trim is painted Mizzle (Farrow & Ball), and the door and window sashes are painted Kitty Gray (Benjamin Moore). All of the wall / ceiling paint is flat, except for the trim on the Hitchcock ceiling, which is satin.
The shelves are also painted the shade Mizzle. The coffee table and side tables were painted with extra paint I had from other projects. The coffee table is Woodlawn Blue (Benjamin Moore) and the side tables are Hale Navy (Benjamin Moore). I used a paint sprayer to paint the furniture and shelves.
The Textiles
Since the design for this room was centered around my beloved Lee Jofa Hollyhock print sofa, I used the colors in that print to guide my choice for complimentary textiles. While I wanted to incorporate a lot of color in this space, I did not want it to feel overwhelming. To do this, I chose accent fabrics with simple patterns and only one or two colors.
A lot of fabric was required for the various projects it took to complete this space so I had to be creative to find options that would fit within my budget. The fabric for the curtains and the lampshades was purchased on sale. The green fabric for the chairs was given to me by my mother, who purchased it as a remnant. I found inexpensive trim and piping on Amazon.

Accents
In my opinion, the accents and accessories are what really pull this room together! One of my favorite accents in this space is the lush, pink velvet pillows. At the beginning of the One Room Challenge, Christy Biberich, who runs Christy B Home, reached out to me to ask if I needed any accent pillows for my room. I had been planning on making some myself, but I am glad I did not because these far exceeded the quality of any I could make myself. In addition to the luxe look and feel, these are incredibly comfortable and reversible. If you are in the market for accent pillows, I highly recommend visiting Christy’s shop!
Shopping for lighting is always a thrill to me because there are almost always ways to find what you want for a bargain. The lamps were purchased on sale and the ceiling lighting was purchased open box.
A majority of the accents and accessories for this room were purchased secondhand, like the mirror, the various pots, and one of the garden stools. Plant pots are expensive so I decided to find inexpensive items that could work as plant pots to add character and color to the shelves.

Thank you so much for following along with our sunroom renovation! It feels great to be (mostly) done with this project. There are still some minor things I need to do.
