Welcome back to my garden tour series, where I show you what’s blooming in my garden each week to help guide your planting decisions. This week, we are focusing on the roses blooming in late April.
Last fall, I started a series of regular posts on my Instagram page that show what’s blooming in my garden throughout the year. I thought I would start a similar series on this site so I could share more information. My intention with these posts is to help and inspire other gardeners in my cold hardiness zone. If you aren’t sure what your cold hardiness zone is, you can check here. This week’s post is focused on the roses blooming in my zone 8 garden in late April.
Our Zone 8 Garden Roses in Late April
Around our home, we have a mix of different types of gardens: formal gardens, cottage gardens, and a kitchen garden. All of our gardens are full of roses. If you live in a warmer climate, like I do in zone 8, roses and camellias make the perfect garden pairing if you want incredible blooms in your garden throughout the year.
Margaret Merril Rose
Margaret Merril is a white, repeat blooming rose that is exceptionally fragrant.
New Dawn Rose
New Dawn is a climbing rose with pale pink petals. Ours has shown good cold hardiness, as it continued to bloom into December last year, despite several nights below freezing.
Felicia Rose
Felicia is an large, versatile rose that can be grown as a shrub or a climber. It has beautiful apricot colored flowers and a strong fragrance.
Iceberg Rose
Iceberg is a white shrub rose with a light fragrance. This rose is a perfect option for hedges.
Champney’s Pink Cluster Rose
Champney’s Pink Cluster is a lovely pale pink noisette rose that was bred in South Carolina in the 1800s.
Cramoisi Superieur Rose
Cramoisi superieur is one of my favorite roses! This rose is not only beautiful, with a lovely scent, but it is also a prolific bloomer and incredibly hardy. These were blooming until mid January when the temperatures dipped into the teens. They started blooming again in March.
Lavender Lassie Rose
Lavender lassie is a soft pink / lavender climbing rose with an intense fragrance. You won’t regret planting this one near a door or window!
I hope you found this helpful. If you have any questions, please let me know in the comments!
