I don’t know about you, but I am dreaming of spring. While we wait for the warmer days ahead, now is the perfect time to tackle some projects indoors. If you need some inspiration, look no further, these beautiful interior design trends will be everywhere this spring – florals and small print wallpaper. Keep reading to learn how to style this look and where to find the pieces you need to bring it to life.
Why florals and small prints are trending this season
Since 2020, we’ve really seen a huge resurgence in the popularity of wallpaper. Floral wallpaper and layered patterns are key components of the grandmillennial / coastal grandmother aesthetic. Small print wallpaper and fabric make excellent options for a layered space and pair beautifully with florals because they add interest without feeling too busy.
This trend also ties into broader movements in design, such as the return of maximalism, where layering textures, prints, and colors is encouraged.
Iconic small print & floral wallpapers
There are certain wallpaper and fabric patterns that have become iconic in the design world. Standing the test of time, these classic prints are just as popular now as they were years ago (some are over 100 years old). These are a few must-know designs:
Brunschwig & Fils – Les Touches
Les Touches is a timeless, small-scale animal-like print. Its versatility makes it a favorite for accent walls and small rooms.
Lee Jofa – Althea
Althea is the screen printed version of the famous Lee Jofa Hollyhock handblocked print. This elegant floral wallpaper is perfect for bedrooms, living rooms, or sunrooms.
Sister Parish – Dolly
Dolly is a dainty floral print that works well with other patterns and is particularly perfect for cozy spaces such as bedrooms and nurseries.
Colefax & Fowler – Bowood
The bowood pattern is an iconic floral print that has become synonymous with English country style.
The best spaces to try these trends in your home
Florals and small print wallpaper work beautifully across various rooms, but some spaces lend themselves especially well to these designs:
Bedrooms
Consider soft florals or pastel printed wallpaper to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere.
Nurseries and children’s rooms
Delicate small prints bring whimsy and charm, perfect for a nursery or playroom.
Bathrooms
Smaller spaces, like bathrooms, are ideal for experimenting with trends.
Tips for styling floral and small print wallpaper
- Balance is key: Pair floral wallpaper with solid furniture to avoid overwhelming the space. Add small-scale prints to your space as accents, such as throw pillows or lampshades. Or, if you’re using small print wallpaper, add floral pillows as accents.
- Layer with textures: Add depth by incorporating materials like rattan, velvet, or wood. A wicker chair or velvet throw pillow can beautifully complement floral walls.
- Accentuate with color: Pull hues from your wallpaper for other design elements, such as curtains, rugs, or artwork, to create a cohesive look.
While it may feel like a spring trend, florals and small prints have enduring appeal. Their versatility allows them to complement a range of design styles.
