Step inside this vibrant and colorful Italianate home for sale in Kennebunk, Maine! Looking at homes on Zillow that I’ll probably never live is one of my many hobbies. I’ve had this stunning old home saved as a favorite for months now. It’s safe to say, this home is a maximalist’s dream.
If you have $3.6 million sitting around, it could be yours – furnishings and all!
This home was built in 1855 in the Italianate style, and is located in the Kennebunk Historic District. The home is referred to as the Joseph Titcomb House, named after it’s first inhabitant, who was a shipbuilder and well-known York County businessman. While the outside appears to be stone, it is actually wood, scored to look like stone, according to the Kennebunk Historic Preservation Commission. It’s location in the Historic District means that even the landscaping is subject to certain guidelines to fit the period of the home.
Front Exterior

The blue exterior, lush hydrangeas, American flag, and classic car in the drive make you feel like you’ve stepped into an idyllic New England dream (or the video for a Lana Del Rey song).
Gardens and Back Patio

The extensive grounds consist of an inground pool, reflection pond, custom pickleball court, and stone patio with firepit. Of course, it is essential to have a pool in coastal Maine, where there are only a handful of truly hot days all year.
Entryway

As you enter the home, you are greeted by an impressive staircase and elegant black and white marble floors. However, what may be even more impressive is the hidden passageway, concealed behind a bookcase on the second floor!
Dining Room

The dining room of my dreams! I’ve posted about the inspiration for my dining room plans before and this space truly fits my vision. The dark green trim is striking with the Cole & Son Forest mural wallpaper. The wallpaper combined with the statement lighting and ceiling, painted like the sky, gives the illusion that you’re dining in an enchanted forest.
Bar

A colorful home bar seems very fitting in the home of an eccentric maximalist! The green theme of the home continues in here.
Kitchen

The kitchen – one of the few spaces in the home that eschews color. However, the bold contrast of the black, white, and gold accents fit with the vibrant, maximalist feel of this Kennebunk home.
Living Room

Again, the Cole & Son wallpaper is the star of the show here. Well, that is in addition to the striking, ornate mirror above the marble fireplace, oriental rug, and brightly colored upholstery.
Bedrooms

The colorful theme of the home continues into the bedrooms, with vibrantly patterned wallpaper, leopard accents, and green paint.
Study

This moody, green study, looks like the perfect spot to relax with a book! If you purchase this home, it comes with an extensive personal book collection so I’m sure there would be plenty to choose from.
Bathrooms

The bathrooms are similarly bright and charming, with floral wallpaper, marble and brass accents.
I hope you enjoyed this walk through an incredibly colorful and vibrant old home in Kennebunk, Maine as much as I did. I’ve included some other posts I know you’ll love below for you to read next.
